Sramana Mitra is the founder of the
One Million by One Million (1M/1M) initiative — an educational, business development and incubation program that aims to help one million entrepreneurs globally to reach $1 million in revenue and beyond.
She is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and strategy consultant; she writes the blog ‘
Sramana Mitra on Strategy’; and she is author of the “Entrepreneur Journeys” book series and “Vision India 2020.” From 2008 to 2010, Mitra was a columnist for Forbes Magazine. As an entrepreneur CEO, she ran three companies: DAIS, Intarka and Uuma and has a master’s degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Her success is unmistakable on so many levels.
“I have been able to make a significant difference in the global entrepreneurship eco-system through my work with 1M/1M. While we have a long, long way to go, I am proud of the fact that (a) we tried; (b) we continue to try; (c) we have succeeded in making a difference already,” says Mitra. When asked what she’d like to change in the world, she said the entrepreneurship world's obsession with venture capital.
And when it comes to what influences this influential founder, she offers “lots of people — my father; Mohammad Yunus; Steve Jobs; Picasso. Mostly, the value system that I have developed through these influences is commitment to a vision and unique, out-of-the-box thinking.”
Her commitment to vision has made her successful at changing the world. But one visual that many readers might not consider is of Mitra as a competitive dancer. In addition to her accomplishments, she is a highly trained Argentine Tango dancer. Now she helps clients dance their way towards the one million mark; and for the record, Mitra doesn’t miss her mark.
