Guterres Calls For End to Violence Stemming From Religious Differences in India

NEW YORK, NY (IANS) – Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has reiterated his call to stop any violence stemming from religious differences in India.

His spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on June 14 that Guterres “is for the full respect of religion, for calling against any sort of hate speech or incitement and, of course, a halt to any sort of violence, especially one based on perceived religious differences and hatred.”

He was replying to a journalist’s question at his daily briefing on “the high tension” in India following the controversial statements about Prophet Mohammed by two former BJP officials.

  • Dear Sir, without prejudice, a small input from my close observation. In India, followers of a certain religion are incited by their own leaders to resort to violence and hooliganism but no one to guide them how to lead an ideal life in harmony with others in a secular country. Religious intolerance ingrained in their thoughts make them volatile and useless other than for anti-national activities. As you see Sir, this group cannot be tamed anywhere in the world because their ulterior motive is something inferior. So, the initiative should come from the UN to frame guidelines as how to deal with them universally for world peace.

  • One more suggestion Sir, the UN should oust those member-countries financially and morally supporting the terrorists, because of their financing only more and more terrorist-groups are mushrooming all over the world. ” Follow faith of one’s choice, practice within the walls of homes and places of worship, be secular and broad minded, live in harmony and poise”, this must be UN’s aphorism and appeal to all the nations.
