NEW YORK, NY – In a recent exchange, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) criticized former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy for mocking the Democratic strategy of labeling the GOP presidential ticket as “weird.”

Ramaswamy had dismissed this tactic as “dumb & juvenile,” calling for a focus on policy instead. “This whole ‘they’re weird’ argument from the Democrats is dumb & juvenile. This is a presidential election, not a high school prom queen contest. It’s also a tad ironic coming from the party that preaches ‘diversity & inclusion.’ Win on policy if you can but cut the crap, please,” he wrote.

Ocasio-Cortez responded to Ramaswamy’s July 28 post with a sharp retort. “Being obsessed with repressing women is goofy,” she wrote. “Trying to watch what LGBTQ+ people do all the time is abnormal. Punishing people who don’t have biological offspring is creepy,” she continued. “It’s an incel platform, dude. It’s SUPER weird. And people need to know.”

This exchange comes as Ramaswamy’s close associate, Sen. J.D. Vance, faces scrutiny over past remarks, including calling childless women “cat ladies” and advocating for higher taxes on Americans without children. The two have a long history, having been classmates and friends at Yale Law School.

In the broader political landscape, Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump are defining their race in stark terms. Harris has framed the contest as a battle between a “prosecutor and a convicted felon,” referencing her career and Trump’s conviction for falsifying business records. She has also labeled Trump as “weird” and emphasized the age difference between them.

Trump, known for his derogatory nicknames, has attacked Harris with various insults, including “Low IQ,” “A bum,” and “Crazy liberal,” while mispronouncing her name to highlight her foreign origins. His name-calling strategy is consistent, having previously dubbed President Joe Biden as “Crooked Joe” and “Sleepy Joe,” and 2016 rivals Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio as “Low-energy Jeb” and “Little Marco.”
