Bishnoi Gang Demanding Rs 10 Crore From Ranveer Singh: Police

MUMBAI – In a significant development for the Mumbai Crime Branch, investigators have confirmed that a recent extortion threat sent to actor Ranveer Singh originated from Harry Boxer, a key operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The threat, delivered via a WhatsApp voice note from an American phone number to the actor’s manager, demanded an extortion payment of Rs 10 crore. Preliminary technical analysis by the police has verified that the voice in the recording matches that of Boxer. Authorities are now coordinating with agencies in the United States to trace the number’s registration and location details.

According to the Crime Branch, this extortion attempt follows a January 31 firing incident outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty. In the recording, Boxer reportedly warned Singh against “going back on his word” and threatened to target the actor’s staff and their families, claiming the gang has detailed information on their daily routines.

While a formal FIR has yet to be registered, police have initiated a preliminary inquiry and significantly tightened security around the actor. Investigators are also looking into whether the audio could have been generated using artificial intelligence tools or was masked using a Virtual Private Network.

On the professional front, the incident comes just weeks before the release of the highly anticipated spy-thriller sequel, ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge,’ scheduled for March 19. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film serves as the second installment of a series that follows an Indian undercover agent, Hamza Ali Mazhari, as he dismantles terror networks in Karachi. The high-stakes sequel, which also stars R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal, explores geopolitical themes inspired by real-life events.
