Delaware Becomes Fourth State To Designate Aug. 15 As ‘India Day’

DOVER, DE – Delaware has become the fourth state to recognize August 15 as ‘India Day,’ as India prepares to celebrate its 80th Independence Day.

Governor Matthew Meyer’s proclamation recognizes the contributions of Delaware residents of Indian heritage through their work, leadership and service in communities across the state. New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts have also recognized August 15 as ‘India Day.’

The proclamation highlights India’s diversity of languages, traditions, faiths and customs, and notes that generations of Indian Americans have carried those traditions forward while building their lives and communities in the United States.

Meyer urged Delaware residents to honor the ties between the state’s communities and the people of India.
