CHICAGO, IL – Pratham USA on April 30, was named a finalist in the prestigious 100&Change competition, which awards a single $100 million grant to help solve one of the world’s most critical social challenges. The competition, organized by the MacArthur Foundation and its nonprofit affiliate, Lever for Change, seeks bold solutions that drive meaningful and lasting change on a global scale. Pratham’s innovative approach to education has earned it a place among the five finalists, with the winner to be announced later this year.

Pratham, alongside its partners, is working to transform education for millions of children across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. By scaling its proven Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach, Pratham aims to help 25 million children acquire essential foundational reading and math skills. This initiative focuses on tailoring education to children’s individual needs. By partnering with governments and communities, it strives to revolutionize education systems, making them more inclusive and equitable for children in underserved regions.

“Pratham’s work is a testament to the transformative power of education,” said the foundation in a statement. “Through its innovative approach, Pratham and its partners are addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time—ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the chance to learn and succeed.”

MacArthur President John Palfrey expressed excitement about the finalists, saying, “Now is the time to dream big, collaborate deeply, and develop new solutions to change the world. Our 100&Change Finalists want to scale ambitious ideas that will help millions of people. Today, we hope the sector finds inspiration in these important projects and joins us in celebrating this milestone in the competition.”

The other finalists in the 100&Change competition include the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project Sentinel, Texas Children’s Hospital, and the Wikimedia Foundation. Each of the finalists addresses globally significant issues ranging from public health and children’s education to investigative journalism and information accessibility.
