Trump Back At It: Lake Ontario Should Be Renamed Lake America

WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump has taken his campaign of renaming geographic landmarks to Lake Ontario, calling it “Lake America” on social media as Canada shows no sign of cowing down to his tariff threats.

Trump posted an image on August 25 showing the words “Lake Ontario” crossed out and replaced with “Lake America” in gold lettering, alongside an American flag.

Trump’s latest naming effort follows his move earlier this year to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.” On the first day of his second term, he signed an executive order directing the change.

Trump’s approach to geographic names has drawn comparisons to China’s use of renaming and maps as part of its territorial disputes with India, including Arunachal Pradesh.

Dominic LeBlanc, Canada’s Minister for Canada-US Trade, declined to comment on Trump’s latest post. He said the Canadian federal government had decided months ago not to respond to Trump’s daily social media posts or those of members of his Cabinet.

Lake Ontario is the smallest of the five Great Lakes by surface area and lies between Ontario and New York state.
