WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Ami Bera (D-CA) noted the swift pace of changes under the new Trump administration, emphasizing his commitment to opposing overreach while ensuring uninterrupted vital services.
“It has been three weeks since President Trump took office, and I know that things are moving fast in Washington,” Bera said. “While I am committed to finding common ground where possible, I will not hesitate to push back when proposals threaten our core values.”
Bera’s office said it has received an influx of concerns from constituents regarding the administration’s actions. He reassured them that his focus remains on making government work for Sacramento County and safeguarding fundamental rights and freedoms.
One key area of opposition is the Trump administration’s handling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). Bera strongly criticized efforts to slash USAID staffing, halt programs without review, freeze life-saving assistance, and even attempt to shut down the agency.
“These actions are dangerous and shortsighted,” Bera said. “They threaten American security, global stability, and our ability to compete with adversaries such as China, Russia, and Iran.”
USAID, an independent agency by law, plays a critical role in diplomacy and development, preventing disease outbreaks, supporting humanitarian aid, and opening new markets for American exports. Bera warned that freezing aid not only endangers lives but also weakens national security.
“Congress has made it clear: any attempt to alter USAID’s structure without congressional approval is unlawful and a direct attack on America’s ability to lead,” he said. “We must stand firm in ensuring USAID’s vital work continues.”
He called on Republican colleagues to join Democrats in reasserting congressional authority over USAID, stressing that withdrawing from global commitments carries severe consequences.

I have personally involved with USAID and World bank and can vouch that a whopping 80% is their overhead! From business class world trips to staying in exotic and most expensive hotels and enjoying fancy dinners to doling out our tax payer money to bridges to nowhere!
February 12, 2025Good riddance to USAID and next have to look at how to rein in on World Bank.
