NEW YORK, NY (ANI) – At New York’s Times Square, the Indian American community gathered in large numbers for vibrant Diwali festivities. US Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and Indian American Assemblywoman Jennifer Rajkumar were among the notable attendees along with the Consul General of India in New York, Randhir Jaiswal.

In 2023, New York City became the first to declare Diwali as a public school holiday, honoring the community’s rich cultural traditions in accordance with the Hindu calendar.

In Pennsylvania, the Indian Consulate organized another Diwali event. Deputy Consul General Varun Jeph participated in the celebrations hosted by the Khalsa Asian American Association, alongside the Indian diaspora and the broader Asian American community.

The event was attended by elected officials including Pennsylvania State Senator Tim Kearney. The consulate expressed gratitude to the American leaders for their ongoing support of the Indian American community and for strengthening India-America relations.
