Boston Celebrates India’s Independence, Cultural Richness

BOSTON, MA – Boston, Massachusetts, came alive with India’s cultural richness and patriotic fervor during the third International India Day Parade, organized by the Foundation of Indian Americans (FIA) New England on August 10. The event commemorated India’s 78th Independence Day with a vibrant display of tradition and unity, attracting participants from 32 countries.

Prominent figures graced the occasion, including former Miss World Diana Hayden, Consul General of India in New York Binaya S. Pradhan, Arjun Awardee and former Indian Cricket Team for Blinds Captain Ajay Reddy, and Hollywood actress Neetu Chandra.

The parade wound through Boston’s India Street and central streets, showcasing a colorful display. The event also honored veterans, law enforcement officers, and senior citizens. Scholarships were awarded to outstanding students, highlighting the dual celebration of independence and education.

A notable theme of this year’s event was the support extended to small businesses. Over 40 small enterprises were given a platform to display their products, fostering local and global economic engagement.

In his speech, Abhishek Singh, president of FIA, emphasized, “Freedom is a right for all, not a privilege for the few. We honor the sacrifices of freedom fighters from both India and the USA and strive to empower our small businesses, the backbone of our communities.” His words were met with enthusiastic applause.

The event concluded with a flag hoisting and cultural program by various talented groups, including Northeastern and Sankalp, at Boston Harbor.
