WASHINGTON, DC – The Embassy of India, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of India and the University Grants Commission, has launched an innovative virtual mentoring series, “MARG: Mentoring for Academic Excellence and Research Guidance.” This program aims to connect students and researchers from Indian universities with Indian American faculty at prestigious U.S. institutions and creating a global academic exchange platform.

The series will focus on students from smaller cities and towns across India, offering them exposure to cutting-edge developments in their fields of study, the embassy said. By tapping into the expertise of faculty from top U.S. universities such as Stanford, Purdue, the University of Maryland, and George Mason University, the initiative is designed to enhance career opportunities, skilling, and research prospects for Indian students and scholars, it added.

During the inaugural session, deputy ambassador Sripriya Ranganathan emphasized the growing academic, research, and industrial sectors in India, particularly in critical and emerging technologies. These include semiconductors, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, quantum science, bioengineering, and clean energy—areas of increasing collaboration between India and the U.S. under the leadership of both nations.

Participating Vice Chancellors and Directors from Indian universities expressed optimism about the program’s potential to benefit students and faculty involved in these key technological sectors.
