NEW DELHI, (ANI) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini at his residence on October 9, following the BJP’s record third consecutive victory in the Haryana Assembly polls. The meeting has fueled speculation about whether Saini will continue in his role after the party secured a majority by winning 48 of the 90 seats.

The BJP’s success came as a surprise, with the party defying exit polls that had predicted a comfortable Congress win. On October 8, the BJP came from behind to notch its best-ever performance in Haryana, dashing the Congress’s hopes of a comeback. Early trends showed Congress leading, but the party eventually ended up with 37 seats.

In addition to the two main parties, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won two seats, while three Independents also secured victories. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), contesting solo after failed seat-sharing talks with the Congress, failed to win any seats. The Jannayak Janta Party (JJP), which had previously won 10 seats in 2019, also did not open its account in this election.

Nayab Singh Saini, thanking the voters, said that people had “put a stamp” on the government’s policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. He acknowledged the role of the central leadership in the BJP’s success and vowed to continue working for the state’s development.
