State Department Expresses Concern Over Manipur Videos

WASHINGTON, DC (IANS) – The United States has voiced its profound concern over distressing reports of viral videos showing two women paraded naked in Manipur, in a sexual assault case that has triggered widespread outrage in India.

The assault, during which a mob raped and humiliated the two women, happened over two months ago but has gained attention only after the video surfaced on social media. In response, authorities have made some arrests in connection with the incident.

A spokesperson of the U.S. State Department condemned the heinous act, describing it as “brutal” and “terrible.” The United States has expressed heartfelt sympathies to the victims and their families in the wake of this shocking event.

The assault took place amidst intense ethnic clashes between the tribal Kuki people and the majority ethnic Meitei, centering on potential changes to economic benefits given to the Kuki community.

Since the eruption of violence in Manipur, at least 125 people have lost their lives, and over 40,000 individuals have been forced to flee their homes, seeking safety from the escalating conflict.

As the world looks on, the call for justice and accountability echoes both within India and across international borders, as societies stand united in their demand for an end to such horrific acts and the protection of human rights for all.
