DES MOINES, IA – Former President Trump has reignited his tried and tested dubious card of birtherism. Attacking rising rival Nikki Haley he is promoting a false conspiracy theory questioning her eligibility to serve as president.

On social media on January 8, Trump reposted a report from the right-wing website The Gateway Pundit, suggesting that Haley, who served as Trump’s United Nations ambassador, is not a U.S. citizen due to her parents’ immigration status at the time of her birth.

Contrary to the conspiracy theory, Nikki Haley was born in the U.S. in 1972, making her a natural-born U.S. citizen and eligible to run for president. Trump did not provide additional commentary in the post, but it marks a continuation of his strategy to cast doubt on the legitimacy of political opponents’ qualifications for the White House.

This is not the first instance of Trump engaging in such tactics; he previously propagated the false claim that former President Obama was not born in the United States and questioned Senator Ted Cruz’s eligibility during the 2016 GOP primary, citing his Canadian birth, The Hill pointed out.

While trailing in Iowa and national surveys, Haley has narrowed the gap with Trump in New Hampshire, posing a challenge to the former president’s dominance.

Trump has intensified his criticism of Haley at recent rallies, and his campaign has issued press releases targeting her stance on immigration, China, and her record on the gas tax during her tenure as governor. Additionally, a Trump-aligned super PAC released an ad criticizing Haley’s position on border policy.

Meanwhile, The Hill pointed out in its report, Trump faces eligibility challenges himself, with Colorado and Maine removing him from primary ballots. Over two dozen challenges across the country question his eligibility, citing his actions surrounding the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.

  • Most of the persons in lunatic asylums are laughing their heads off because Trump is raising their emotional status for calling Nikki Haley an illegal citizen. They have found a person having lower emotional intelligence than they do.

    • No one is questioning her birthplace but she’s not a Natural Born Citizen according to Resolution 511 and Congress is the branch responsible for establishing what citizenship is and they said it’s persons whose parents are US citizens at the time one is born, a threshold Nikki doesn’t meet.

  • a law Professor joked that Trump will start questioning who won civil war. Trump and his family will say and do anything to get attention. If haley pulls within striking distance in New hampshire where Gov sunnunu a well connected family in NH has endorsed him, Trump will loose.

  • This birther trick is turning old! I doubt if too many people will fall for it. It is also a sign of desperation on the part of Trump. I would love to see this guy defeated in all the primaries and caucuses, assuming that he will be on the ballot in all the states, which may or may not be the case, pending how the US Supreme Court rules on the 14th Amendment lawsuit in the context of the alleged insurrection committed by Trump on January 6, 2021.

  • This is an epitome of lunatics behavior. The sad part is that a lot of “deplorables” will believe him. North Korean dictator called him by an appropriate adjective, (well i can’t recall it; maybe you can help me).

  • Well there’s two branches of the US government whose legal opinions actually say persons whose parents aren’t US citizens when they’re born aren’t Natural Born Citizens.
One of the branches Congress is responsible for establishing what citizenship is. Congressional Resolution 511 which has legal opinions from 2 constitutional law experts states the citizenship of one’s parents is material as to who may be a Natural Born Citizen.
An 1875 Supreme Court majority opinion also defines who may be Natural Born Citizens and it’s persons born in the United States to parents who they themselves are US citizens a threshold Haley, Harris & Ramaswamy can’t meet.
Furthermore it’s interesting that one one has asked if the trio holds or held foreign citizenship if either are true it would bring into question whether they even qualify for the 14th amendment because the passage subject to the jurisdiction thereof explicitly means 100% jurisdiction of the United States.
This piece mentions none of that. Nikki Haley isn’t a Natural Born Citizen. End of story!
