Trump Pressures Pakistan To Establish Diplomatic Ties With Israel

WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump has urged Pakistan to recognize Israel and establish diplomatic relations with it under the Abraham Accords as part of broader diplomatic efforts linked to the ongoing Iran conflict.

Trump said in a Truth Social post on May 25 that “it should be mandatory” for Pakistan to “sign onto the Abraham Accords”, under which several Muslim-majority nations have normalized ties with Israel.

Trump also called on Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Türkiye, Egypt, and Jordan to support the Abraham Accords framework.

Presenting the demand as part of wider regional diplomacy, Trump wrote that the move should follow “all the work done by the United States to try and pull this very complex puzzle together”.

The Abraham Accords were launched in 2020 during Trump’s first term and led to the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, and Sudan establishing or advancing diplomatic ties with Israel.

Pakistan has historically not recognized Israel and has consistently backed the Palestinian cause while criticizing Israeli actions in Gaza and the Palestinian territories.

Analysts say domestic political opposition and Pakistan’s longstanding public position on Palestine could make it difficult for Islamabad to respond positively to Trump’s demand.

Trump also indicated that expanding the Abraham Accords could become part of a broader Middle East settlement involving Iran and regional security issues.

“By copy of this TRUTH, I am asking my Representatives to begin, and successfully complete, the process of signing these Countries into the already Historic Abraham Accord”, Trump wrote. (IANS)
