Meghna Gulzar Says ‘Life’ Fuels Her Writing

MUMBAI-Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, who is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film ‘Daayra’, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Kareena Kapoor Khan, said life and the stories that emerge from it are her primary sources of inspiration. She also said she consumes more non-fiction than fiction and remains aware of what is happening in society and the world around her.

The filmmaker, who studied sociology as her graduation subject, said her academic background has also shaped the way she observes society and the world around her.

“So, there is a sense of a radar which is open to what is going on in your society and your world. Apart from that, I think it’s just a general awareness in the world that you live in and trying to constantly be aware of it and stay in tune with it and keep abreast of what is going on.”

‘Daayra’ is a crime thriller with a socially grounded narrative. Gulzar is known for thought provoking films such as ‘Talvar’, ‘Raazi’ and ‘Sam Bahadur.’
