BENGALURU – Indian space-tech startup GalaxEye has achieved a historic milestone by securing a United States patent for the core technology behind its proprietary OptoSAR imaging system.

The achievement makes GalaxEye the first Indian startup to receive a US patent for satellite imaging technology. The patent, which covers a foundational technology already patented in India, protects GalaxEye’s system architecture designed to align and synchronize optical and microwave sensors.

Securing intellectual property protection in the United States provides GalaxEye with a strategic advantage as it commercializes its weather-agnostic OptoSAR technology across major international markets.

Founded in 2021 by IIT Madras alumni Suyash Singh, Denil Chawda, Pranit Mehta, Kishan Thakkar, and Rakshit Bhatt, GalaxEye aims to position India as a global originator of deep-tech intellectual property.

This innovation allows for the simultaneous acquisition of spatially and temporally matched data, solving a long-standing challenge in Earth observation by seamlessly integrating optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery directly at the sensing level, the company said.

GalaxEye has already proven the technology in orbit through Mission Drishti, which launched on May 3, marked it as India’s largest privately built Earth-observation satellite.

Over the next five years, the company plans to deploy a 30-satellite constellation serving defense, government, and commercial sectors across national security, agriculture, infrastructure, insurance, maritime intelligence, and disaster management.
