India Pitches ‘Sarvodaya’ Vision For Inclusive Development At G7 Meet

NEW YORK, NY – Sibi George, Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs, on September 24 emphasized India’s human-centric and inclusive approach to development, anchored in the principles of ‘Sarvodaya’, at the second G7 Development Ministers meeting in New York.

George participated in the meeting organized by France, the G7 chair, on the sidelines of the 81st UN General Assembly.

In his remarks, George highlighted India’s position that development is not merely about providing financing but also about building domestic capabilities and strengthening resilience. He also cited India’s development partnership initiatives.

Earlier, George reaffirmed India’s commitment to inclusive development, international cooperation and multilateral reform, and supported the early adoption of the Covenant on the Right to Development.

He made the remarks while delivering India’s national statement at a high-level segment of the UN General Assembly marking the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development.

The Declaration proclaims the right to development as an inalienable human right, under which every person and all peoples are entitled to participate in, contribute to and enjoy economic, social, cultural and political development, with all human rights and fundamental freedoms fully realized, according to the United Nations.
