WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi issued a statement on November 4, following a briefing by the State Department regarding efforts to protect the rights of religious minorities, particularly Hindus, in Bangladesh.
During the briefing, the State Department underscored that safeguarding the rights of Hindus and other religious minorities is a top priority, frequently addressed in high-level diplomatic discussions with the Bangladeshi government. The department also highlighted its ongoing initiatives to enhance the capabilities of Bangladesh’s civilian security forces, focusing on training programs aimed at protecting religious minority rights.
The congressman expressed his continued support for increased transparency from the State Department regarding its efforts in Bangladesh. He called for the release of more public information and statistics concerning the treatment of religious minorities in the country as part of a broader commitment to combat religious violence, discrimination, and bigotry.
“I appreciate the State Department’s attention to this important issue and will follow up again in the coming weeks,” Krishnamoorthi added, reaffirming his commitment to advocating for the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh.
