After Raids, Raj Kundra Summoned By ED In Money Laundering, Porn Case
MUMBAI, (ANI) – Raj Kundra, businessman and husband of actor Shilpa Shetty, has been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case linked to the production and distribution of adult content. The summons followed recent raids at Kundra’s properties in UP.
Kundra issued a public statement on December 1, asserting his cooperation with the investigation while urging the media to respect his wife’s privacy. “It’s unacceptable to repeatedly drag my wife’s name into unrelated matters. Please respect the boundaries,” he wrote on Instagram, emphasizing that he is “fully complying” with the ongoing four-year probe.
Shilpa Shetty’s lawyer, Prashant Patil, also addressed the media, clarifying that the ED has not conducted any raids on the actress and that she has “nothing to do with any offence.” Patil criticized media reports for being “misleading” and requested that Shetty’s name and imagery not be used in connection with the case.
The money laundering investigation is tied to earlier FIRs and chargesheets filed by Mumbai Police, alleging Kundra’s involvement in uploading and streaming obscene content through the app Hotshots. Police have claimed the app was used to exploit actors, coercing them into filming semi-nude or nude scenes under the guise of auditions for web series or short films.
Kundra, who was arrested in 2021 and later released on bail, has maintained his innocence, alleging he was falsely implicated and was not named in the original FIR. He described himself as a “scapegoat,” claiming no direct evidence linked him to the alleged crimes.
This is not Kundra’s first legal trouble. Earlier this year, the ED attached assets worth ₹98 crore belonging to Kundra and Shetty in a cryptocurrency case, though the couple later secured relief from the Bombay High Court.
The investigation remains ongoing, with the ED scrutinizing financial transactions, including WhatsApp chats reportedly linking Kundra to the sale of adult films.
