MUMBAI – With Maha Shivaratri approaching, Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has lent his voice to a devotional track dedicated to Lord Shiva.

Titled Mahakal Chalo, the song features Akshay alongside singer Palash Sen. The lyrics, penned by Shekhar Astitwa, are complemented by Vikram Montrose’s composition.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Akshay wrote, “Shiv Bhakti mein ek aur kadam, Mahakal Chalo! Umeed hai ki jis divya anubhav ko maine gaate samay mehsoos kiya wahi aap bhi mehsoos karenge. #MahakalChalo, song out now.”

Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated on February 26.

Meanwhile, the Priests Association has accused the actor of insulting Sanatan dharma. The president of the association, Mahesh Sharma, issued a statement:

“In the song, the film actor is embracing the Shivling and panchamrit abhishek is being performed on him, which is inappropriate. Also, Bhasma is also being offered, it is clear that only Ujjain Mahakal is offered Bhasma, not anywhere else. It’s not right to create anything on the film set and insult Sanatan.”
