MUMBAI, (ANI) – As India begins the new year, megastar Amitabh Bachchan took a moment to remember the prominent figures who passed away in 2024, highlighting the country’s unity in diversity. On January 5, Big B shared a poignant illustration titled “Our heroes in heaven,” featuring the doodles of Ratan Tata, Shyam Benegal, Zakir Hussain, and Manmohan Singh. The accompanying caption read: “A Parsi, a Muslim, a Sikh, and a Hindu passed away in 2024, and the whole nation mourned and remembered them only as Indians!”

Bachchan’s heartfelt post drew widespread attention and garnered numerous comments, with social media users praising the message of unity. One user wrote, “How thoughtful,” while another remarked, “One nation, one religion—Humanity.”

The four figures represented in Bachchan’s post each played a vital role in shaping India’s cultural, political, and industrial landscape.

Ratan Tata, an industrialist and philanthropist, passed away on October 9 at the age of 86. Tata was the chairman of two of India’s largest philanthropic trusts and was honored with the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. His leadership left an indelible mark on India’s business world and charitable efforts.

Zakir Hussain, the legendary tabla maestro and son of Alla Rakha, passed away on December 15. Known for blending traditional rhythms with global influences, his music transcended cultural boundaries and will live on in the hearts of his fans.

Shyam Benegal, the acclaimed filmmaker, died on December 23 at 90. A giant in Indian cinema, Benegal’s films like AnkurMandi, and Junoon left a lasting impact, exploring complex socio-political themes. His collaborations with legendary actors added depth to his storytelling, making him a revered figure in Indian cinema.

Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, passed away on December 26. Singh was known for his pivotal role in India’s economic reforms, particularly during his tenure as Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996. Serving as India’s 13th Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, he guided the nation through significant growth, economic challenges, and global recognition.

Through his post, Amitabh Bachchan reminded the nation of these individuals’ lasting legacies and the unifying power of their contributions.
