Bowlers Shine In Win Over Pak In Women’s ODI World Cup

COLOMBO – India captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised her bowlers after a commanding 88-run victory over Pakistan in the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup at Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium on Sunday, October 5.

Posting 247 on a tricky pitch, India relied on their bowling attack to secure the win. Kranti Gaud and Deepti Sharma starred with three-wicket hauls each, dismantling Pakistan for 159. “Very happy, very important game for all of us, and I’m sure everyone back home is happy as well. Our bowling was great,” Harmanpreet said during the post-match presentation. She singled out Kranti’s performance, adding that Renuka Singh also played a key role in breaking partnerships.

Harmanpreet acknowledged the challenges of batting on a slow, rain-affected surface and commended Richa Ghosh for her vital unbeaten 25, which gave respectability to India’s total. “It wasn’t an easy pitch… Richa batted really well and gave us those crucial 30 runs,” she said.

The win marked India’s 12th ODI victory over Pakistan and propelled them to the top of the points table. Looking ahead, Harmanpreet emphasized the team’s focus on carrying momentum into upcoming matches against South Africa and defending champions Australia in Visakhapatnam.

Kranti Gaud dedicated her performance to her village Ghuwara in Madhya Pradesh, sharing her pride at being able to represent her community on the global stage.
