TUSCALOOSA, AL
– Dr. Ramesh Babu Peramsetty, the founder and medical director of the Crimson Care Network, was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on August 23. The network, which manages several local clinics, confirmed his passing in a Facebook post and requested privacy for the Peramsetty family.
Further details about the incident and the ongoing investigation have yet to be released.
Originally from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh, Peramsetty was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. He was a well-known figure in the medical community, with nearly four decades of experience. He gained significant recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic when his clinics were among the first to offer testing, vaccinations, and monoclonal antibody treatments.
In a statement, the Crimson Care Network expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love and support, encouraging the community to keep the Peramsetty family in their thoughts and prayers.
Peramsetty, a 1986 graduate of Sri Venkateswara Medical College, is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.
Tuscaloosa City Council President Kip Tyner expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling Peramsetty one of his “dearest and closest friends” and praising his dedication to his patients and the community. In recognition of his contributions, the city had previously renamed a street in his honor, Peramsetty Avenue.
Peramsetty, according to Indian media was also the brother of Telugu Desam Party leader Peramsetty Ramaiah.
