MUMBAI- Ed Sheeran and Arijit Singh have released a special version of ‘Sapphire.’ The Grammy winner said he loves this version and listens to it every morning with his daughters because of Arijit’s voice.

Sheeran described his memorable trip to Jiaganj Azimganj with his dad to meet Arijit for the final piece of the song. After a five-and-a-half-hour drive, Arijit took them on a boat tour where they talked, ate, and drank coffee. In the studio, Arijit taught Sheeran some Punjabi singing and a bit of sitar. They later went on a late-night scooty ride, listening to ‘A Prayer By The River’ and discussing music.

Sheeran called it one of the most amazing days of his musical career, marking the end of a beautiful journey for the song and the start of something bigger. He praised Arijit’s voice, tone, flow, and rhythm, thanking him for his talent and grace.

Recorded in Goa, the special version adds a new dimension to Ed’s vibrant summer track. Arijit sings a verse mixing Hindi and Punjabi, with a chorus in English, while Sheeran sings a chorus blending Hindi and Punjabi, creating a cross-cultural fusion celebrating love.

Both versions feature intricate South-Asian percussion and were produced by Ilya Salmanzadeh, Johnny McDaid, and Savan Kotecha.

Ed Sheeran will release his new album ‘Play’ on September 12. (IANS)
