NEW DELHI — In a stern and emotionally charged address to the nation on May 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a clear warning to Pakistan, asserting that India will not tolerate any form of “nuclear blackmail” and that military operations have merely been paused, not ended.

Speaking for the first time since Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister in his 22 minute speeck said the decision to halt the offensive was taken only after Pakistan pleaded for a cessation and assured New Delhi it would refrain from further provocations.

“India will not tolerate any nuclear blackmail. We have only kept in abeyance our operations against Pakistan. The future will depend on their behaviour,” Modi said in a televised address. “Operation Sindoor is now India’s new policy against terrorism—a new line has been drawn.”

The Prime Minister described the Pahalgam attack, in which 26 Hindu pilgrims were brutally killed, as the “most barbaric face of terrorism” India has witnessed in recent years. Holding back visible emotion, Modi called it a “personal pain”, adding that the enemy has now faced the consequences of attempting to erase “sindoor from the forehead of our women.”

Launched in the early hours of May 7, Operation Sindoor targeted multiple alleged terror launchpads across the Pakistan-administered Kashmir region.

In his address, the Prime Ministeralso had a strong message for the international community: talks with Pakistan will now only revolve around terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

“If we talk to Pakistan, it will be about terrorism only. It will be about Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,” Modi said, underscoring a major policy shift in India’s diplomatic posture.

He also reiterated that any future terror attack on Indian soil will be met with a “strong response”. His remarks are widely seen as a signal that India’s counter-terror policy has entered a new phase, one in which proactive strikes and clear red lines will define New Delhi’s approach.

Modi’s message makes one thing clear: India has changed the rules of engagement, and any misadventure by Pakistan will invite a swift and forceful response.

“The era of restraint at the cost of our people is over. India stands united, and India stands ready,” the Prime Minister said.

He also indicated India has no plans to lift the hold on the Indus Waters Treaty that it imposed a day after the Phalgam massacre.

“Water and blood cannot flow together,” he said indicating that there might be a ceasefire but India is still wary of Pakistan’s motives and terrorism.

  • Sad part is none of the Muslim countries have been able to pursued to stop Pakistan’s terrorism “policies”. They simply believe if the leaders deny any knowledge, they would not be held responsible!

Israel proved it otherwise. All the “leaders” are gone and the land is in ruined with unfortunate thousands of civilians dead.

Read some have supported Pakistan and some have called India. They pay billions to Pakistan to survive. It could be better used for its people’s survival.

Next terrorist attack will tell the story. Leaders will deny, but they can’t hide.

  • Should have wiped Pak off the face of the Earth just like Israel did to Gaza. I would have hoped that Modi learned from Netanyahu.

  • Was India under pressure to accept the cease fire and not finish up the Pakistan once in for all. We know that there be another infiltration, we had an opportunity to take care of it now.

  • Consider the episode of Prithiviraj Chauhan who defeated M. Gauri 15 times. Was he brave, I say NO. He was stupid . We are the same people who continue to give the second cheek in the name of tolerance. Kashmir is an integral part of India and must be take back when possible.
