WASHINGTON, DC – Laura Loomer, the far-right provocateur and self-described “Islamophobe,” has made waves yet again—not for her devotion to Donald Trump, but for her increasingly vocal criticism of his administration.

Once seen as a die-hard loyalist, Loomer had made headlines when she said the White House would “smell like curry” if Kamala Harris were elected, a racist remark that drew condemnation even from Trump allies. Still, she remained close to Trump’s inner orbit during the campaign—flying on his plane to his debate with Harris and standing beside him at the 9/11 commemoration in New York.

Despite holding no official role, Loomer has taken it upon herself to act as a self-appointed guardian of the MAGA agenda. “I wasn’t even on the Trump campaign,” she said during a recent broadcast. “And yet, I feel like every single day, it’s a full-time job just to make sure the president is protected and that he’s receiving the information he needs.”

Boasting 1.6 million followers on X and hosting a weekly show with a sizable viewership, Loomer has leveraged her platform to influence MAGA loyalists—and take aim at Trump’s team, Reuters reported. Over the past several weeks, she has attacked a growing list of Trump allies and policy moves: blasting Attorney General Pam Bondi, opposing the nomination of surgeon general pick Casey Means, and criticizing Trump’s decisions on the Middle East.

Reuters noted Loomer particularly railed against Trump’s praise of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, calling him “anti-MAGA” and a “Marxist.” She voiced anger over the lifting of sanctions on Syria and an investment deal with Qatar, claiming—without direct evidence—that the Gulf nation was funding pro-Palestinian protests in the U.S. When reports surfaced that Trump might accept a luxury jet from the Qatari government, Loomer fumed: “We cannot accept a $400 million `gift’ from jihadists in suits.”

Her most pointed attacks have focused on the nomination of Casey Means as surgeon general. Loomer called Means “unqualified,” citing her lack of a medical license and alternative wellness advocacy. “I want to know which one of President Trump’s geniuses chose a woman who literally talks to trees and spiritual mediums,” she posted. Trump has defended the nomination.

Loomer has also claimed credit for the firing of National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, alleging she influenced Trump after a White House meeting, Reuters said. While Trump met with her and did make personnel changes shortly thereafter, he denied Loomer played a role. A White House official confirmed she holds no advisory position, no pass, and no scheduled meetings with the president.

Despite her outsider status, Loomer has turned proximity to Trump into influence, and in some cases, disruption. Her blend of conspiracy theories, ultra-loyalism, and internal criticism now poses a strange challenge for Trump: she’s not on the payroll—but she’s impossible to ignore.
