WASHINGTON, DC – Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has initiated the first public release of long-classified U.S. government files on the disappearance of aviator Amelia Earhart, acting on a declassification order issued by President Donald Trump in September.

The National Archives has begun posting the records at archives.gov/ameliaearhart. Gabbard said agencies are now required to identify, declassify, and transfer all relevant material, which will be uploaded on a rolling basis.

The initial batch includes search reports, maps, communication logs, and intelligence files from the days following Earhart’s disappearance in 1937. Newly declassified National Security Agency material details her last known radio messages, weather data, aircraft status, and projected search areas, along with later government inquiries and competing assessments.

Trump, in authorizing the release, called Earhart “an aviation pioneer” whose disappearance “has captivated millions” for nearly 90 years.

“The release will shine light on the disappearance of a beloved American aviator who has been at the center of public inquisition for decades,” Gabbard said in a written statement, noting that the goal is to create a single, publicly accessible archive of all federal Earhart records for the first time.

Officials said additional material will be posted as agencies complete their searches.
