Gwen Walz Visits Michigan Gurdwara
India-West News Desk
DETROIT, MI – Gwen Walz, Minnesota’s First Lady, and Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal visited a Gurdwara in Michigan, joined by Democratic congressional candidate Debbie Dingell and state representative Ranjeev Puri.
Sharing the significance of the occasion on social media, Jayapal wrote, “What a historic day! Today, @GwenWalz honored the Sikh community in Michigan. This is the first major party presidential ticket campaign to visit a Sikh Gurdwara ever! It was an honor to be part of ensuring EVERYONE is heard, respected, and seen.”
The event included some lighthearted moments; when a young attendee asked Walz, a teacher, if a third-grader should do their homework, she responded with a smile, advising, “As long as it’s not more than 20 minutes, give it your best shot!”

It was truly a gracious act of respect extended by Mrs. Tim Walz, Congresswoman Pramila Jaypal, and other public officials to visit a Gurdwara site in Detroit, Michigan. Their visit is memorable to all who welcome them and vice versa. Gurdwaras are always open to all persons and believers. It is hoped that they took some Langar, an anchor of the Sikh faith.
