In Boston, Rahul Gandhi Accuses Indian Election Commission Of Bias

BOSTON, MA (ANI) – Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, speaking to the Indian diaspora in Boston, alleged that India’s Election Commission (EC) has been “compromised,” raising serious concerns about the transparency of the country’s electoral process.

Citing the Maharashtra state elections, Gandhi claimed an implausible surge of 6.5 million voters within two hours. “More people voted in Maharashtra than the total number of people in Maharashtra, and this is a fact… The Election Commission gave us a figure around 5:30 p.m., and by 7:30 p.m., 65 lakh voters had voted, which is physically impossible,” he said. “It’s very clear to us that the Election Commission is compromised. There is something very wrong with the system.”

Gandhi also emphasized the significance of India’s ties with the United States, expressing optimism about continued cooperation. “We have a partnership with the US, and hopefully, we will continue to work together,” he noted.

Thanking the diaspora for their support, he said, “You believe, you listen to other people, and you respect them. This is what runs in the Congress party and in our family… Thank you for carrying the flag here. It’s a very powerful thing to do.”

Congress Overseas Chief Sam Pitroda, who met with Gandhi earlier in the day, shared on social media that their discussion centered on entrepreneurship, technology, inclusivity, and the need for ethical leadership. “It’s clear that the private sector has a major role to play in building a just, innovative, and inclusive India,” Pitroda wrote, calling Gandhi “a voice for the youth, for democracy, and for a better future.”

Gandhi arrived in Boston on April 19.
