Kanika Kapoor’s Album Brings India’s Spiritual Heritage To Global Stage

MUMBAI — Singer Kanika Kapoor has unveiled her latest music project, Sounds of Kumbha, a 12-track album that celebrates the grandeur of the Mahakumbh, the world’s largest peaceful gathering. Kapoor describes it as a “celestial album” that captures a once-in-a-lifetime cultural experience and presents Indian classical traditions to international audiences.

Presented by classical singer and producer Siddhant Bhatia, the album is a cultural initiative commissioned by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. It brings together more than 50 artists from across the world, blending live field recordings from Prayagraj with ancient mantras and contemporary compositions produced at SoulTrax Studios, New Delhi. Each track is paired with a music video, creating an immersive journey through sound and imagery.

The project boasts a star-studded lineup of collaborators, including Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Grammy winners Jim “Kimo” West and V. Selvaganesh, Grammy nominees Madi Das, Ron Korb, and Raja Kumari, pianist Charu Suri, violin virtuoso Kala Ramnath, as well as Bhanumathi Narasimhan, Pravin Godkhindi, Ajay Prasanna, Aditya Gadhvi, Kalyani Nair, Raghav Mehta, and The Indian Choral Ensemble. The album is mixed and mastered by two-time Grammy winner P.A. Deepak. Seven producers contributed to the project, among them Bhatia, West, Das, Korb, Suri, Devraj Sanyal, and Mehta.

Spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar described the work as carrying a universal message: “The whole world is just one human family, and we belong to one light, one spirit. This message comes across through music in Sounds of Kumbha.”

Raja Kumari called her participation “a truly spiritual experience” and described the album as “a peace offering to the world from the banks of Sangam.” Producer Siddhant Bhatia echoed that sentiment, calling it “India’s peace offering” that channels the energy of sacred rivers, chants, and cosmic silence.

With its scale and ambition, Sounds of Kumbha is being considered for submission in the Global Music Album category at the 68th Grammy Awards.
