LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) made 10 new acquisitions for its permanent collection during the museum’s 38th Collectors Committee fundraiser, including a key piece by Manjunath Kamath.

Since 1986, Collectors Committee weekend has been one of the museum’s most important fundraising events and continues to enable major acquisitions for every area of its encyclopedic collection. This year, 154 voting members raised nearly $3 million for art acquisitions, the museum said.

Kamath is a contemporary Indian artist known for his vibrant and imaginative works that often blend traditional Indian iconography with modern themes and techniques. His artworks span various mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, and installations.

The Delhi based artiste’s work often reflects a deep engagement with Indian folklore, mythology, and cultural traditions, while also addressing universal themes such as migration, identity, and the human condition.

LACMA’s acquisition is a 12-foot-tall terracotta sculpture, ‘Vikatonarva’ that assembles iconography from cultures across time and place.
