ANNAPOLIS, MD – Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller formally filed for reelection alongside Governor Wes Moore on February 23, positioning herself for a second term and underscoring her role in advancing what the administration describes as three years of measurable progress in Maryland.

The filing, completed at the Maryland State Board of Elections headquarters in Annapolis, came one day before the official deadline and sets the stage for the June 23, 2026, primary election.

Miller, who made history as the first Indian American and first South Asian woman elected to statewide office in Maryland, has been a central partner in the administration’s legislative and economic agenda. Since taking office in 2023, she has worked closely with state agencies, lawmakers and business leaders on initiatives aimed at reducing childhood poverty, strengthening public education and expanding high growth industries.

“We are proud of the progress Maryland has made,” Miller said after filing. “And we are committed to continuing the work expeditiously and responsibly so that every Marylander can benefit from the progress we’re making.”

Throughout the first term, Miller has emphasized government modernization and accountability. The administration points to permitting and procurement reforms designed to streamline business growth and reduce bureaucratic delays. Officials say those efforts are intended to make Maryland more competitive while maintaining fiscal discipline.

Economic development has also been a cornerstone of Miller’s portfolio. The administration has expanded investments in life sciences, information technology, aerospace and advanced manufacturing, sectors viewed as critical to the state’s long term growth. Among the headline developments was a major expansion by AstraZeneca, described by state officials as the largest private sector investment in Maryland history, reinforcing the state’s ambitions as a global innovation hub.

Supporters credit Miller with helping build bridges between state government and diverse communities across Maryland, particularly immigrant and minority communities that see her candidacy as symbolically and substantively significant. As lieutenant governor, she has often represented the administration at community events, business forums and policy roundtables across the state.

With the filing complete, Miller now turns toward the campaign trail, where she and Moore are expected to highlight economic gains, anti poverty initiatives and government reforms while outlining priorities for a potential second term.

The Democratic ticket enters the race emphasizing continuity and unfinished work, framing the 2026 campaign as an opportunity to deepen reforms and broaden economic opportunity across Maryland.
