WASHINGTON, D.C. – First Lady Melania Trump who is known for her silences and enigmatic public personality, has been making statements about revenge porn on the web.

She joined lawmakers and advocates in the nation’s capital on April 8 to celebrate the committee passage of H.R. 633, the Take It Down Act, a bipartisan bill targeting the growing threat of deepfake and revenge pornography. The bill passed out of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce with support from both parties, marking a significant step in efforts to strengthen online protections for children and victims of non-consensual image sharing.

The Take It Down Act would make it a federal crime to publish or threaten to publish non-consensual intimate images. It also mandates that internet platforms, including social media companies, remove such content within 48 hours of receiving a notice from the victim. The legislation aims to empower victims and deliver swift justice while deterring further misuse of technology to harass or exploit individuals.

The First Lady had earlier participated in a roundtable discussion on Capitol Hill highlighting the urgent need for legislation that addresses the harm caused by non-consensual intimate imagery (NCII), including AI-generated sexual content, also known as deep fake porn.

Revenge porn, which involves the unauthorized distribution of sexually explicit content, and its increasingly sophisticated AI counterparts have become a major concern for lawmakers and families alike.

In her statement, she said, “I remain dedicated to championing child well-being, ensuring that every young person can thrive and Be Best…This marks a significant step in our bipartisan efforts to safeguard our children from online threats.”
