
IOC- USA Holds Times Square Vigil After Pahalgam Terror Attack

NEW YORK, NY – The Indian Overseas Congress USA (IOC USA) held a solemn gathering at Times Square on April 27 evening in remembrance of the the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
The event, “Stand in Solidarity with India,” brought together members of the Indian American community, IOC USA officials, and local leaders to condemn the violence and call for stronger national security measures.
The gathering featured a candlelight vigil and a moment of silence. Attendees held placards reading “India Against Terrorism” and “Justice for Pahalgam.”
Harbachan Singh, Secretary-General of IOC USA, voiced the organization’s support for the Indian government’s efforts to restore order in Kashmir. He called on authorities to prioritize aid for victims’ families and take firm steps to prevent future tragedies. Singh emphasized the need for unity, justice, and a non-partisan approach to national security.
Other IOC USA leaders echoed these sentiments, expressing collective grief and urging against communalizing the tragedy. They highlighted the impact on Kashmir’s tourism industry and called for increased economic and protective support.
Secretary Jaswinder S. Kang mourned the innocent lives lost and pressed for urgent improvements in safety protocols, particularly ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.
Mohinder Singh Gilzian, President of IOC USA, delivered also critiqued the Indian government’s response, saing, “National security must come before political gains.”
The event concluded with a renewed pledge from IOC USA to advocate for peace, security, and unity, while continuing to support India through coordinated efforts with diaspora communities and international allies.
