Modi Dials Iranian President, Urges Immediate De-Escalation

NEW DELHI (IANS)  – Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on June 22 and reiterated call for immediate de-escalation and diplomatic measures to restore regional peace in the Middle-East.

“ We discussed in detail about the current situation. Expressed deep concern at the recent escalations. Reiterated our call for immediate de-escalation, dialogue and diplomacy as the way forward and for early restoration of regional peace, security and stability,” he posted.

Modi’s call for restoring dialogue and diplomacy came on a day when the United States bombed three nuclear facilities of Iran, triggering wave of reactions from global powers. Iran strongly condemned the United States’ strikes on its nuclear facilities, calling it a “brutal military aggression” and gross violation of international law and the UN Charter.

Earlier, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announced that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) began a series of strikes targeting military sites in western Iran following a missile attack conducted by Iran earlier that day.

Iran launched more than 30 ballistic missiles at Israel on June 22, the IDF had said earlier in the day.

Israeli authorities said their offensive against Iran was a pre-emptive measure to stop Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons – an ambition Iran has consistently denied.

  • US Bombing Iran nuclear sites is marking a dangerous escalation into an Iran-Israel war that contradicts Donald Trump’s original promise of no war. This unilateral military action, undertaken without congressional authorization, not only endangers our 40,000 troops in Middle East but also risks dragging the U.S. into a conflict that does not serve our national interest, placing an unnecessary burden on the American people. We need immediate transparency from the Trump administration, a full and secure briefing for Congress, and a swift return to diplomatic channels to de-escalate the situation, while holding the administration fully accountable for the dire consequences of this reckless decision.

    • Go back to Modi’s India and live there. Your comments are not welcome in USA. Why Russia is on war with Ukraine killing innocent men, women and children and raping women. Did you or your Modi ever comment on Russia but on the other hand India bought the bloody 🩸 oil from Russia. Iran’s nuclear ambition must be crushed and Trump did the right thing. He does not need congressional approval being the Supreme Commander of US army.

  • The current administration in Washington, D.C., has further muddied the waters in the Middle East. They have not learned from the debacle in Vietnam. This aggressive posture has many outcomes similar to those in Southeast Asia. I am afraid that this administration has little capacity to understand the history, culture, and national behavior, which are absolutely essential to deal with the volatile regional politics. They should refrain from getting sucked in on behalf of Israel and its extremist leadership. It may be a win-win for Israel, but not for the United States.
