BRUNSWICK, ME — A new statewide survey has placed former Maine CDC director Nirav Shah at the front of the Democratic primary field for governor, his campaign announced on December 10.

The Pan Atlantic Research Poll, conducted from November 29 to December 7, shows Shah with 24 percent support among likely Democratic primary voters, the highest of any candidate tested ahead of the 2026 race.

Campaign Manager Kayla vanWieringen said voters remember Shah’s leadership during the pandemic, describing him as someone who guided the state with clarity, compassion, and courage during a difficult period. Shah later served as Principal Deputy Director of the U.S. CDC, building a reputation as a steady and collaborative problem-solver.

Shah’s campaign message centers on affordability, access to health care, support for working families, and what he describes as practical steps to strengthen communities across Maine.

Responding to the poll, Shah said it signals a desire for change but stressed that it is only one data point. He said he intends to earn trust by listening, learning, and offering concrete solutions to the challenges facing families.
