NEW YORK, NY – Thousands of Indian Americans gathered in New York on August 17 to celebrate India’s 79th Independence Day at the annual India Day Parade, organized by the local Federation of Indian Associations.
Actors Rashmika Mandanna and Vijay Deverakonda served as Grand Marshals, leading the procession. Distinguished attendees included Congressman Shri Thanedar, New York City Mayor Eric Adams, and Rajya Sabha MP Satnam Singh Sandhu.

The parade featured a float from the Consulate General of India in New York themed ‘Viksit Bharat 2047,’ highlighting India’s technological, infrastructural, and digital achievements as the nation approaches its centenary of independence.
The Independence Day festivities coincided with Shri Krishna Janmashtami, marked by a Rath Yatra organized by ISKCON New York, which drew hundreds of devotees.
