NEW DELHI –Pakistan successfully defended a low total of 136 to defeat Bangladesh by 11 runs in the Asia Cup Super Four stage, securing their place in the final against arch-rivals India on September 28 in Dubai.

The Super Four match served as a virtual semi-final, with the winner advancing to the trophy clash. Bangladesh initially gained the advantage by restricting Pakistan to 135 in 20 overs. Bangladesh’s chase struggled early. Despite late boundaries from Rishad Hossain, Bangladesh fell short by 11 runs.

The upcoming final marks the third meeting between Pakistan and defending champions India in this tournament, with India victorious in both previous encounters.

These encounters have been marked by tension. After India’s seven-wicket victory in the group stage, players from the two sides did not exchange the customary handshake, an omission Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson attributed to India’s refusal. The tradition was similarly skipped at the toss.

The Super Four match, which India won by six wickets, saw tensions flare again, highlighted by a moment between Indian opener Abhishek Sharma and Pakistan bowler Haris Rauf that required the umpire to step in.

The final is scheduled for September 28.
