PM Modi: Yoga Moves Us From ‘Me’ To ‘We’

VISAKHAPATNAM (IANS) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 21 emphasized that yoga serves as a powerful discipline that helps individuals transition from a focus on ‘Me’ to a collective ‘We.’ Speaking at the 11th International Day of Yoga event on June 21 at RK Beach in Visakhapatnam, he noted that this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health,’ highlights the interconnectedness of all life on Earth.

“Yoga teaches us we are not isolated individuals but integral parts of nature,” the Prime Minister stated. He explained that while yoga initially focuses on personal health, this care gradually expands to encompass one’s environment, society, and the planet. He reiterated that yoga is a “profound personal discipline” that simultaneously functions as a “collective system,” fostering this shift from ‘Me’ to ‘We.’

Modi observed that this ‘Me to We’ spirit embodies the very essence of India, stressing that when individuals look beyond self-interest to consider society at large, the welfare of all humanity becomes possible. He referenced Indian culture’s teaching of ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ (the welfare of all is one’s sacred duty), noting that this journey from ‘Me’ to ‘We’ forms the basis for service, dedication, and coexistence, ultimately fostering social harmony.
