Prashant Kishor’s New Party: Jan Suraaj
PATNA, (ANI) – Prashant Kishor has officially entered electoral politics with the launch of his Jan Suraaj group as a political party. The Jan Suraaj Party aims to contest all seats in Bihar’s next assembly election. The party will be headed by Manoj Bharti, a retired officer of the Indian Foreign Service.
Kishor has announced that if elected, the party will end Bihar’s prohibition on liquor and use the revenue to improve the state’s education sector. He emphasizes a shift in the election agenda, moving away from caste and electoral promises towards a vision for Bihar’s future. Kishor stated that the decision on party leadership was left to the people who have worked with the group over the past two years.
For more than two years, Kishor has traveled across the state, raising awareness about what he believes should be the focus of the election. Earlier this year, he declared Jan Suraaj ready to formally enter the political arena, offering the people a fresh alternative. “In Bihar, for the last 25 to 30 years, people have been voting for RJD or BJP. That compulsion should end. The alternative should come from the people, not from dynastic parties,” he said.
Kishor’s initiative followed a brief stint with Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United and an unsuccessful attempt to join Congress. After declining a position in Congress’s “Empowered Action Group” in 2022, he criticized the party for lacking the collective will to address structural issues.
Since then, Kishor has been conducting a statewide yatra, aiming to visit every village in Bihar. His goal is to educate residents on improving living standards and to encourage voting based on progress in education, agriculture, and employment. He has said that the next phase of his initiative will include presenting solutions for Bihar’s challenges.
