India-West News Desk

MUMBAI- Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji have been awarded Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, at the 71st National Film Awards. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the awards on August 1, recognizing outstanding cinematic achievements. This is Shah Rukh Khan’s first National Award, which he won for his performance in the action film ‘Jawan’. He shares the Best Actor honor with Vikrant Massey, who was recognized for his role in the critically acclaimed movie ’12th Fail’.

Rani Mukerji was named Best Actress for her leading role in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’. ’12th Fail’ also secured the Best Film award. The Best Director award was given to Sudipto Sen for ‘The Kerala Story’.

Shah Rukh Khan, who has been in the industry for nearly 35 years, began his career in television and theater before transitioning to cinema. After a series of memorable anti-hero roles in films like ‘Baazigar’ and ‘Darr’, he became known as the “King of Romance.” In recent years, he has focused on the action genre, with blockbuster hits ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Jawan’. The actor has a history of working through pain, having undergone surgery in 2003 for a spinal injury he sustained in 2001.

Vikrant Massey, like Khan, also successfully transitioned from television to film, establishing himself as a highly respected actor.
