Shilpa Shetty Drops Plan To Visit Los Angeles, Withdraws Plea To Relax Travel Ban
MUMBAI – Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has withdrawn her request to travel to Los Angeles after cancelling her scheduled appearance at an event with U.S. influencer MrBeast, her lawyer told the Bombay High Court on October 16.
The actress, who is a co-accused along with her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, in an alleged Rs 60 crore fraud case, had earlier filed a petition seeking relaxation of the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued against her. With the cancellation of her trip, Shetty has now withdrawn that plea, her lawyer said.
The Bombay High Court will next hear the couple’s separate petitions seeking to quash the LOC entirely on November 17.
Shetty and Kundra, former directors of the now-defunct home shopping and online retail platform Best Deal TV Private Limited, were booked in August for allegedly defrauding businessman Deepak Kothari of nearly Rs 60 crore in a loan-cum-investment deal.
During the October 16 hearing, Kothari’s lawyers accused Shetty of perjury, claiming that her affidavit seeking permission to travel abroad was riddled with irregularities—including a missing signature on one of its pages—and alleged forgery in the notary process.
Last month, both Shetty and Kundra had sought temporary suspension of the LOC, saying they needed to travel overseas for professional engagements and personal trips. The court, however, declined to allow leisure travel, noting that the pair are under investigation in a serious cheating and fraud case.
The couple’s next hearing is slated for November 17. (IANS)
