WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a major move signaling its editorial ambitions, MSNBC has named veteran journalist Sudeep Reddy as its first-ever Washington, D.C. bureau chief, as the network prepares to split from parent companies NBCUniversal and Comcast later this year.

Reddy’s selection is particularly notable given his reputation for nonpartisan, fact-driven journalism — a sharp contrast to assumptions that MSNBC might lean further into commentary as it loses access to NBC News’ reporting bench.

The move also reflects the editorial direction of MSNBC President Rebecca Kutler, who is betting on hard news over opinion programming. “The MSNBC audience is cerebral and appreciates analytical, contextual reporting,” Kutler said. “This is a serious moment where real reporting will matter, and Sudeep is the right person to lead that effort.”

Reddy, 45, brings more than two decades of experience covering politics, policy, and economics. He joins MSNBC from Politico, where he served as senior managing editor, overseeing a newsroom of 150 journalists. During his tenure, he launched key editorial products — from newsletters and podcasts to live events — and built the outlet’s first audio team from the ground up.

Previously, Reddy was an economics editor at The Wall Street Journal, where he led coverage of U.S. and international economic issues from Washington. He’s also a familiar voice to radio audiences as a longtime contributor to American Public Media’s Marketplace.

A Texas native and graduate of Brown University, Reddy holds a degree in biomedical ethics and American history. He began his reporting career at The Dallas Morning News, covering the energy industry and Texas Legislature, before relocating to the capital to cover national policy. He currently teaches digital journalism at Georgetown University as an adjunct faculty member.

Reddy will officially assume his new role on June 16, leading MSNBC’s newly established D.C. bureau at the Hall of States building.

  • We hope he is fair-minded with MSNBC programming since this is the worst communist channel like Pravda with no common sense and everything against republicans and Trump. No wonder it is dying with a decline in viewership!
