JAIPUR, (ANI)- Preity Zinta, co-owner of Punjab Kings, penned an appreciation post after her team qualified for the IPL playoffs, following a thrilling victory over Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur.
Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and stellar performances from both batters and bowlers, Punjab Kings ended their playoff drought, bringing joy to fans and team owners alike.
“What a fantastic win by @punjabkingsipl. Super proud of the way the team came together & fought for this victory. Yesterday was all about teamwork, grit & leadership. Take a bow @harpreetsbrar95, @shashanksingh027, @nehalwadhera, @shreyasiyer96 & the entire team for taking us into the playoffs,” Zinta wrote on social media, tagging head coach Ricky Ponting as well.
Ponting praised the team’s resilience and their simple, effective approach throughout the tournament. He highlighted the batting unit’s strong total of 219/5, crediting Nehal Wadhera’s 70 off 37 balls and his 67-run partnership with Iyer.
“Shashank (Singh), awesome again. Every time you’ve been confronted with something in the tournament, you’ve found a way to get it done,” Ponting said, commending Singh’s unbeaten 59-run knock.
The former Australian skipper also lauded the bowlers, particularly Harpreet Brar, who took three key wickets while giving away only 22 runs.
Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals on May 24 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
