Trump Claims US Tariffs On India Have Hurt Russia’s Economy

WASHINGTON, DC —President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for disrupting Russia’s economy, this time pointing to America’s steep tariffs on Indian imports of Russian oil. Speaking here,  Trump said the measures had dealt a “big blow” to Moscow, which he described as struggling economically.

Trump suggested that Russia’s economic potential is being wasted due to global pressures and U.S. tariffs. “Their economy is not doing well right now because it’s been very well disturbed by this,” he said, singling out India’s purchases of Russian oil.

The president emphasized that his policies, including a 50 per cent duty on India’s Russian oil imports combined with 25 per cent reciprocal tariffs on other Indian goods, have forced countries to rethink their economic strategies. “Doesn’t help when the President of the United States tells their largest or second-largest oil buyer that we’re putting a 50 per cent tariff on you… That was a big blow,” he added.

Trump has repeatedly described New Delhi and Moscow as “dead economies” and suggested that his tariffs have not only generated revenue for the U.S. but also contributed to resolving global conflicts, including tensions between India and Pakistan.
