WASHINGTON, DC – Former President Donald Trump, in a rambling Oval Office address on March 6, commented on NASA astronaut Sunita Williams’s hair while discussing the prolonged mission of two astronauts stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Trump, 78, assured astronauts Williams and Butch Wilmore, “We’re coming up to get you,” while claiming—without evidence—that President Joe Biden had abandoned them in space and suggesting he would lead a personal rescue mission to get them. The pair, originally set for an eight-day mission in June 2024, have remained aboard the ISS for over eight months due to technical failures with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

Pivoting to a physical observation, Trump commented, “And I see the woman with the wild hair—good, solid head of hair she’s got. There’s no kidding, there’s no games with her hair.” He did not mention Williams by name.

Trump also said, “I asked Elon, ‘Can you get them out?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ He’s preparing to go up, I think in two weeks.”

Continuing his criticism of Biden, Trump called him “the most incompetent president in our history” and implied that the astronauts had been “left up there” under his watch. He then speculated about their time in space, saying, “I hope they like each other… maybe they’ll love each other.”
