
Washington State Senate Passes Resolution Honoring India Republic Day

OLYMPIA, WA -The Washington State Senate passed a resolution on January 27honoring the contributions of Indian Americans to the culture and history of both Washington State and the United States. The resolution, sponsored by state senator Manka Dhingra (D-Redmond), emphasized the shared democratic values between India and the U.S.
“More than 100,000 Indian Americans live in Washington, reflecting values of inclusion and pluralism through their diverse cultural and religious identities,” Dhingra stated. “Indian Americans have enriched every aspect of our society, from education to business. As the two largest democracies, we must stand together to protect our shared ideals of democracy, diversity, and inclusion.”

The floor session opened with prayers led by Mustafa Mohamedali of the Islamic Center of Olympia and Karandeep Singh of the Khalsa Gurmat Center in Federal Way.
The Senate also recognized several prominent members of the Indian community in attendance, including Consul General Prakash Gupta, Jagdish Sharma of the Indo-American Friendship Forum Foundation, Nickhath Sheriff, co-founder and CEO of Essentials First, Preeti Shridhar, Woodinville Water District commissioner, and Nilesh Patel, board member of BAPS temple in Redmond.
