India Rebuts Washington Post Allegations Of Plots In Maldives, Pak

WASHINGTON, DC – India has categorically rejected claims made in two recent Washington Post reports, dismissing them as baseless and biased. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, accused the publication and its journalist of harboring a “compulsive hostility” toward India, questioning their credibility.

One report alleged Indian involvement in a failed scheme to impeach Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu. The report, citing a document called “Democratic Renewal Initiative,” suggested opposition leaders attempted to bribe 40 lawmakers, including members of Muizzu’s party, to oust him. The purported conspiracy reportedly collapsed after secret negotiations failed to secure enough votes.

The second report claimed India’s intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), had conducted “shadow operations” in Pakistan since 2021, allegedly targeting terror operatives. The allegations were based on unnamed Pakistani and Western officials.

Jaiswal dismissed both accounts, emphasizing, “The credibility of the newspaper and its reporter is for everyone to judge. For us, it’s nonexistent.” He invoked a 2011 statement by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who warned Pakistan against fostering terrorism: “You cannot keep snakes in your backyard and expect them to bite only your neighbors.”

India’s strong rebuttal underscores ongoing regional tensions and its dissatisfaction with the portrayal of its actions in international media. (with ANI input)
