With Snowless Slopes, Kashmir Postpones Winter Games
India-West News Desk
GULMARG- The Gulmarg leg of the Khelo India Winter Games 2025, originally set to begin on February 15, has been postponed due to insufficient snowfall. Events scheduled for February 22 to 25, including alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, and snowboarding, were to take place.
“Persistent snowfall and favorable weather conditions are essential for the competitions,” said a local. With climate change Jammu and Kashmir is currently experiencing unusually warm temperatures for this time of year, hindering the accumulation of snow.
While snow levels fluctuate each year, scientists say climate change is driving erratic rainfall and shifting weather patterns. (with news agencies input)
